Day 303: Summary of the Fifth Commandment (2318-2330)
It’s Day 303!!
MCNUGGET DAY!!
Paragraph 2318 says, “‘In [God’s] hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind’ (Job 12:10).”
Paragraph 2330 says, “‘Blessed are th3 peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God’ (Mt 5:9).”
From the very beginning to the very end, our vision of the human person and how we treat other people in a moral way comes from the Lord Himself
It comes from Scripture
It comes from how God has revealed Himself and His own heart to us
What and who are human beings?
Who is God in Himself?
We are called to have the heart of the Lord Himself
When we deal with other people, at the minimum we must not take innocent human life
Beyond that, we must love our enemies
Beyond that, we must pray for those who hurt us
Beyond that, we must care for those who persecute us
We can only do that if we have God’s grace
We can only do that if we have the heart of Christ in us
Let’s pray!!
Prayer by Fr. Mike: “Father in Heaven, we give you praise. We give you glory. We thank you. We recognize that you have called us to an incredibly high call. In fact, this call is so high that we cannot do it on our own. We cannot respond to your call unless we respond to your grace. So in the name of Jesus Christ, I ask that you please open our hearts to receive your grace. Give us the desire to have hearts like you. Shape the way in which we see our brothers and sisters, our neighbors, and even our enemies. Help us to see them as you see them. Help us to see them as you see us. And help us to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. To fulfill the commandment of Jesus, and to be more like you in this world. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen”
So there we have it!!
Fr. Mike quotes Paragraph 2318 here, no need to write it all again wouldn’t you agree?
Fr. Mike quotes Paragraph 2319 here, etc.
Every human life is sacred from the moment of conception
That is a human being from the moment of conception
“My body, my choice”
Yes, the woman has independence and she has freedom so she gets to choose what do do with her body
From the moment of conception, that is a NEW BODY
That is a NEW BEING
It is a vulnerable and innocent being
It is different
It is NOT the body of the mother
The mother’s life is sacred and has been willed for her own sake in the image and likeness of the living and Holy God
The mother’s life also exists for this child’s own sake in the image and likeness of the living and Holy God
Let’s listen to Fr. Mike tell a story about an interview with a man who experimented on human embryos…
Basically the dude realized he was wrong to experiment on human beings
He realized that all human lives have dignity on their own
So he stopped doing experiments on human embryos
There is a consistency in everything we have been learning in this sanctity of life ethic
Regardless of where they live, regardless of their need, regardless of their weakness
Even regardless of their guilt
ALL human life has dignity
Fr. Mike quotes Paragraph 2321 here…
As Catholics, we can be involved in law enforcement and the military
There are times when we may be called to defend the lives of those whom we are responsible for, even if we are ordinary citizens
The unintended double effect is by protecting yourself or someone you are responsible for it may end the life of the aggressor
There are times in our lives where we are faced with such evil around us that we may want to compromise with evil, take the side of evil, or even do evil to someone as an act of vengeance
WE MAY NEVER EVER DO THAT
Even cops, soldiers, etc can never do that
But it must be an act of love
Out of love, I am defending my family, the common good, etc. to protect and preserve the lives of the people around me
Fr. Mike is praying FOR YOU!!
Please pray for Fr. Mike and for each other!!
I cannot WAIT…
